Edinburgh Cycle Tours & Biking Trips

Regular tours on Saturday afternoons (1.30 – 5.00) from Easter to October. Tours start at The Leith Cycle Co., 276 Leith Walk, Edinburgh, EH6 5BX. We go through parts of both The Old and New Towns, and offer great views from Calton Hill from where you can see the pattern of the city. We may also fit in a glimpse of The Water of Leith and St Bernard’s well.

Arrange your own guided cycle tour of Edinburgh. Tours range from 3 hours to a day in length, and will be planned to suit you and your party/group. Tours can be during the day, or, in the summer, make use of the long evenings. Bicycles can be hired, including an electrically assisted bike for the less fit.

Edinburgh is a great city for cycling, with both the hills and the sea in easy reach. There are several lengths of off road paths as well as on road cycle lanes and plenty of quiet roads. Guided tours make the most of these, whether touring central Edinburgh or further afield.

And cycling is one of the best ways to discover Edinburgh.

Edinburgh council encourages residents and tourists alike to explore the city by bicycle. And it’s working hard to make sure that cycling in Edinburgh is safe, secure and fun. Within the city, cyclists are allowed to use the bus lanes at peak hours and there is also an extensive network of traffic free cycle routes. If you’re visiting and don’t have your own bikes, 23 Mayfield Guest House can lend bikes to their guests. But numbers are limited. However, there a number of bikes for hire in Edinburgh.

You don’t need to be extremely fit to cycle around Edinburgh but be prepared for a bit of a work out as the city is hilly.

If you want to take a leisurely ride, you can cycle along The Water of Leith Path, a scenic and traffic-free route that runs along the river that goes through Edinburgh from Leith to Balerno. Alternatively, you can cycle at the Meadows Millennium Park. This is a good destination for families as it offers a large grassy area perfect for playing ball games and it is also has a playground.

For the more adventurous cyclists, Pentland Hills Regional Park offers challenging terrain for mountain bikers.
